Joan wrote Building Blocks for Breakthrough Results which sold over 2,000 copies, and is for people who are interested in making a significant difference. As a business
and personal coach, motivational speaker, educator, and business- woman
for over twenty-five years, Joan has been helping people be
more accountable and responsible in the workplace. Out of
her coaching, people find themselves more expressive, self-confident,
and creative. Many of her clients triple their income from
their work together.
Through her coaching clients learn the difference between
efficiency and effectiveness. Sometimes we are very efficient,
but not very effective. Our effectiveness in any area of our
life is a function of who we are BEING when we’re DOING
whatever it is we do. This book is about empowering you to
BE extraordinary. It’s about bringing the commitment
you have for your future into your life now.
Think of each of the 52 chapters as a tip, or tool, or building block. Here are three of the "Tips of the Week" you could begin working on right now:
#19: Acknowledge yourself for your accomplishments -- "A leader speaks of his or her accomplishments powerfully. Pick a specific time at the end of each week, perhaps Friday at 4:00pm. Review your appointment book or just take some time to review your week. Acknowledge the accomplishments you've had during the week. If you can't think of something specific, then ask someone else to tell you one thing. Don't end your week until you can speak powerfully about what you have contributed to your organization, family, neighborhood or society...."
#26: Learn something new -- "Challenge yourself to learn something new every week by trying a new computer program, going to a cooking class, reading a new book, attending a finance seminar, or using a new needlepoint stitch. Write down what you're learning.....By learning something new, your ability to lead will grow..."
#33: Talk Straight -- "It's okay to say what you mean and mean what you say. Talk straight. Most people are afraid of talking straight...Have you ever heard the phrase "Talk is cheap?" I say, "No, talk is not cheap! People have cheapened talk."
Go for it!
